It was hours before the Imperial forces broke through the fleeing Chaos lines. Traitors in all manner of uniform drew into small formations, firing into the Tyranid and Ork forces that had suddenly turned against them. Astartes and Guard weapons rattled staccato notes of death into their confused enemies, and before long, every opposing force had fled. As the last of the Traitor vessels frantically took off into the atmosphere, a team of Azure Flames made their way into the center of the city.

It was on the high slab of obsidian that they found him. Slumped and still warm to the touch, Atrus’ plasteel frame moved no more.

They had not been the first to find him.

The crystal matrix that had for so long been the focus of Atrus’ weapons was gone, with no sign of those who had taken it. They had left a token of their gratitude, though. A small shrine of wraithbone, depicting a glowing warrior, stood by the Chapter Master’s side. None dared disturb it.
